LA GÓNDOLA has been producing the most exquisite canned sardines from the Portuguese coast, where it is based, for three generations.
The cannery began its activity in Italy more than a century ago, moving to the north of Portugal in search of the best ports for its raw materials: sardines.
La Góndola maintains the traditional method of producing sardines, where the main difference is the quality of the catches, which are exceptional on these Atlantic coasts.
The ideal sardine for making these preserves is caught in the months of July and August, in the middle of summer, when the fish has the greatest amount of fat and is the ideal size to achieve the perfect preserve.
Following the deep-rooted tradition of the area, the sardine undergoes a light roasting, with steam at 100º C, followed by sterilization and packaging. The result is a premium quality sardine preserve sold in 30 countries.
Sardine preserves are different depending on the quality and flavour of the season, and can be stored for an almost unlimited period of time, offering an interesting evolution in flavour and texture, highly appreciated by the most demanding consumers.
La Góndola is one of the oldest and most emblematic Portuguese canneries, well-known both at home and abroad, and in addition to sardines it offers other preserved fish such as mackerel, tuna or cod, and recently it also makes delicious pâtés with natural ingredients, which you cannot miss trying.
